Why A Cup of Coffee? 04/02/07

How TradeMarket works

  • To become an issuer you submit an application and a $35 fee. This fee will be used to subsidize administration, design and printing of the currency and a directory of the products and services that TradeMarket will publish. This directory will include your contact information. You are not purchasing 'Trades', you are being credited Trades which you pay for with the products and services you offer for sale to TradeMarket members.

  • You will then be provided with 100 Trades that may be spent purchasing fellow-members products & services and, in turn, you are obliged to accept Trades, at your descretion, for products & services you offer.

  • Regarding price, one Trade, as a unit of account, equates to a 16oz. cup of coffee (sold for $1.75 in February of 2006). Initially, you can set the price of your products/services by equating 1 Trade = 1 16oz. coffee = $1.75 (ask yourself—“how many cups of coffee is my product/service worth?”) but the value of a Trade will quickly establish itself, through being traded, as an independent free-market unit of account. Over time, you will see a 16oz coffee rise beyond $1.75 which signifies that the dollar is bleeding value whereas, if the community will support it, the Trade will tend to increase in value because we are backing it with real products and services.

Requirements

  • You must have at least one product or service you are willing to offer which you will describe along with contact information to be posted in the TradeMarket directory of membership services.

Are traders protected from improper use of 'Trades'?

  • This answer is what makes community currency great. Traders are free to refuse Trades. Traders are also free to accept Trades at a discount from their face value. You are in control. No force is on you to trade. Only make deals that are economic. You are a community member so when you benefit the community benefits.

When to start trading

  • TradeMarket is free-market so there's no restriction on when to trade. Once TradeMarket has sufficient membership to provide several pages of products & services in the directory, it will be published. The Directory of Services tab on this website displays the current membership.
